The Media Dispatch started as a small newsletter written by two journalists who left a major Toronto daily in 2011, frustrated by what they saw as a narrowing of editorial ambition in mainstream Canadian media. What began as a weekly email to a few hundred subscribers has grown into a publication read by tens of thousands of Canadians each month.
We cover federal and provincial politics, economic policy, the environment, and the cultural shifts reshaping Canadian life. Our reporters are based in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, and Halifax — which means we try not to let any single city's perspective dominate our coverage.
We are not affiliated with any political party, corporation, or advocacy group. Our operating costs are covered by a mix of reader support and advertising. Advertisers have no influence over editorial decisions — that's not a policy we adopted recently; it's been the rule since the first issue.
